Adaptive Problem Solving

Adaptive Problem Solving Model

You've heard it said that every consultant has a favorite tool! It's their hammer for your nail. At DLCG we too have favorite hammers but we seek to construct a complete tool box that is unparalleled in our industry so that our favorite tool actually becomes our tool box and your problem is examined and the right tool is applied to help you solve the right problem.

The professionals at the DLCG Facilitation Center have used a wide variety of problem solving methods. There are different types of groups with radically different problems to solve. So, we set out to research problem solving to find the best methods to use.  What we found of the 13 documented models that we examined was that there are five basic steps that every model had in common. Then based on the focus of the model additional "adpative steps" were added to round out the model for the group. Therefore we elected to create this adaptive model.

During the planning phase of an event we work with the client to tailor a process to meet the specific needs of the problem they are facing and the group. All problem solving includes the five basic steps. The adaptive elements are identified and inserted into the appropriate point of the five basic steps. If we find that the selected elements of the model are insufficient during the session we can adapt it on the spot.

This methodology is one of several that DLCG Facilitators/ consultants use with client groups to explore, define, and create sustainable actions to solve your perplexing problems.

This methodology is normally used as the structure of a problem solving meeting. It is, however, adaptable enough to be used as an element of a problem solving activity in a larger, more complex, meeting.
